A Sideways Look at Faithfulness for Quantum Correlations

چکیده
Despite attempts to apply the lessons of causal modelling observed correlations typical entangled bipartite quantum systems, Wood and Spekkens argue that any model purporting explain these must be fine tuned; is, it violate assumption faithfulness. The faithfulness is a principle parsimony, intuition behind basic compelling: when no statistical correlation exists between occurrences pair events, we have reason for supposing there connection them. This paper an attempt undermine reasonableness in context. Employing symmetry relation system `sideways' consisting single photon passing sequentially through two polarisers, I Spekkens' analysis applies equally this sideways system. If correct, then consequence endorsed by ordinary amounts rejection explanation sideways, system, too. Unless rejecting can sufficiently justified, looks as though tuned, so violation may more tolerable than first thought. Thus extending classical `no fine-tuning' parsimony realm well too hasty.

The rheumatoid foot: a sideways look.
As with many other aspects of the foot, the rheumatoid foot, historically, has been treated symptomatically. If there is a painful tenosynovitis, synovectomy; a painful joint not responding to drug treatment, fusion; bony prominences (including metatarsal heads), excision; if the structure collapses, a valgus 'insole'; and if all else fails, bespoke footwear and discharge. But is this good enou...

752 NOTICES OF THE AMS VOLUME 47, NUMBER 7 A s the nineteenth century drew to its close, David Hilbert (1862–1943), then regarded as a leading mathematician of his generation, presented a list of twentythree problems, which he urged upon the attention of his contemporaries. They have entered the folklore of professional mathematicians; even a partial solution of one of them has given its author...
متن کاملThe p38 MAPK Pathway in Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Sideways Look
The p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway has been strongly implicated in many of the processes that underlie the pathology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). For many years it has been considered a promising target for development of new anti-inflammatory drugs with which to treat RA and other chronic immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. However, several recent clinical tr...
متن کاملA sideways look at configural encoding: two different effects of face rotation.
Inversion has a disproportionate disruptive effect on the recognition of faces. This may be due to the disruption of holistic or configural encoding employed to recognise upright faces. The paradigm developed by Tanaka and Farah (1993 Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, Section A 46 225-246) was used to investigate the effect of 90 degrees (or orthogonal) rotation on configural encodi...
متن کاملAnother Look at Quantum Neural Computing
The term quantum neural computing indicates a unity in the functioning of the brain. It assumes that the neural structures perform classical processing and that the virtual particles associated with the dynamical states of the structures define the underlying quantum state. We revisit the concept and also summarize new arguments related to the learning modes of the brain in response to sensory ...
